Sir Matthew Begbie Elementary School

Scope of Work:

    • Installation of all Mass Timber components including glulaminated beams and CLT walls, floor and roof panels.
    • Installation of all Mass Timber hold down hardware and miscellaneous metals connections.

Sir Matthew Begbie Elementary School is a new 36,000 ft2 two storey build in downtown Vancouver.  Structurlam Mass Timber Corporation supplied a fully machined Glulaminated Beam and CLT package to site including all exterior and interior bearing walls, second floor and roof plates.  This was a challenging installation with a second floor two-way cantilevers.

Our team utilized local scaffolding experts at United Scaffolding Supply Company (Burnaby) to assist with an engineered shoring system that made the install possible.  The winter of 2020-21 was one of the wettest years on record.  Pre-installed roof membranes (Soprema) and pre-installed floor membranes (Siga Wetguard) were only possible under the cover of a tent.  Beam Craft is grateful for the outstanding service from the team at Elevation Tent Rentals (Vancouver).  Crane service throughout the 4 months was provided from Eagle West Cranes and equipment rentals from United Equipment.

The Sir Matthew Begbie project marked a return to British Columbia for Beam Craft and we are actively looking to grow our team in this dynamic market for Mass Timber projects.  Thank you to Yellowridge Construction for entrusting us as a trade partner on this high profile Cross Laminated Timber project and we look forward to developing our professional services further with them.
